The major issues in today’s financial press are the increase in the price of certain basic consumer goods, the banking sector in Cyprus in view of the euro area entry and the enforcement of the MIFID directive.

The “Economy” inset of newspaper “Phileleftheros” refers to the increase in the price of certain consumer goods. According to the Statistics Service, price hikes have been observed in bread, meat, milk, water supply, sewage services, electricity and gas.

Elsewhere the newspaper reports that Morgan Stanley counts on the Greek banks’ stocks.

The “Economy” inset of newspaper “Politis” refers to the banking sector in Cyprus in view of the euro area accession. According to the report, things have changed in the sector, since in 2005 there were only three strong Cypriot banks. Now, two Greek banks have arrived on the island, while banks in the domestic market have expanded abroad.

“Politis” also highlights that Commerce Minister, Antonis Michaelides visited the Emirates on Sunday to have contacts.

The “Economy” inset of newspaper “Simerini” refers to the adoption of the MIFID directive. According to the report, the directive will offer more opportunities, better information and more transparency.

The newspaper also refers to the increase in the activities of the industry.

The “Economy” inset of newspaper “Alithia” refers to the adoption of the lower VAT on hundreds of goods and services. According to the report, the VAT reduction has become a boomerang for the Finance Ministry since the insufficient measures did not benefit the consumers.

“Alithia” also reports that Marfin Popular Bank presented the Big Families Plan, which addresses to families with three or more children.

The newspaper “Haravgi” does not contain a financial inset.
