Press: Seeking a balance for foreclosures

As noted, talks continue on a technocratic and political level between the parties and the opposition and between the DISY President and the Finance Ministry. Today’s session of the House Finance and Interior Committees has been transferred for Wednesday. The fact that the Finance Ministry requested time to examine the partisan proposals within the framework of the deliberations with the troika is a positive development.

Elsewhere the newspaper refers to the withdrawal of Makis Keravnos from his position as CEO of Hellenic Bank Group.

The “Economy” inset of newspaper “Politis” refers to the Finance Ministry’s data on the government’s fiscals for the first seven months. According to them, for the period January – July, the accounts of the central government showed fiscal surplus of €63.8 million, which corresponds to 0.40% of GDP compared to a deficit of €385.8 million that corresponded to 0.2% of GDP in the corresponding period of 2013. At the same time, the primary surplus increased to €410.7 million compared to €45.2 million in the corresponding period last year.

“Politis” also reports that Bank of Cyprus is expected to receive its €1 billion from the share capital increase on Thursday, September 18.

EDEK President, Yiannakis Omirou condemned the visit and called on the government to stop being possessed of delusions and to denounce the moves of the Turkish president. Spokeswoman of the Ecologists Eleni Chrysostomou said that the Turkish show once again their intentions on Cyprus, since together with the Turkish President's visit to Cyprus, the research aircraft 'Barbaros' is conducting illegal investigations in the Cypriot EEZ.

The newspaper also reports that citizens will know what they owe to the state as a property tax by Friday.

The newspaper “Haravgi” refers to the deliberations that are in progress on the foreclosures bill. According to the report, the government leaked that it is preparing a backup plan if the bill is not approved, based on which a new special unit will be introduced in the land registry and the legal service, which will deal exclusively with foreclosures.
