Press: Talks on tax changes

The major issues in today’s financial press are the transfer of many Greek companies in Cyprus due to the financial crisis in Greece and the Finance Minister’s meeting with CIPA Chairman today.

The newspaper “Phileleftheros” refers to the arbitrations between the state and the private companies for the differences that emerge during constructions. The General Auditor sent a letter to the Attorney General, stressing that in a recent arbitration case, there were serious mistakes on behalf of the arbitrator and asked for the full revision of the institution.

The “Economy” inset of the newspaper reports that due to the debt crisis in Greece and the liquidity problems, the deposit rates recorded an increase again and the banks are looking for cash. The lending rates are among the highest in the euro area.

The “Economy” inset of newspaper “Politis” reports that thousands of Chinese workers are trying to escape Libya in the past few days, revealing the risks that the Chinese energy companies face in the unstable African countries.

“Politis” also highlights that the Chinese stores in Greece close due to the financial crisis.

The “Economy” inset of newspaper “Simerini” refers to the transfer of many Greek companies in Cyprus and other neihbouring countries due to the crisis in Greece. According to the report, in the past two years at least 2 thousand Greek companies were transferred to Cyprus and other neighbouring Balkan countries looking for a better economic climate, economic and political stability, friendly investment environment, a simplified tax framework and less bureaucracy.

The newspaper also highlights that Moody’s downgraded Greece’s rating by three notches.
