Without planes and cement

The island’s airports have paralysed from the 4hour strike of the air-traffic controllers on Wednesday, while the employees at Vassiliko Cement Works are on their sixth day of strike.

In his statements, Airport Spokesman, Adamos Aspris said that “according to preliminary figures of Hermes Airports Operation Centre, the new strikes are expected to affect 36 flights at both airports, 18 arrivals and 18 departures. Of them, 22 are to and from Larnaca International Airport and 14 to and from Paphos International Airport”.

The strike of Monday March 12 is expected to affect 24 flights at both airports in Cyprus, 11 departures and 13 arrivals. Of them, 14 concern Larnaca and 9 Paphos, he added.

“The strike of Thursday, March 15 will affect 20 flights at both airports in Cyprus, 9 departures and 11 arrivals. Of them, 14 concern Larnaca International Airport and 6 Paphos International Airport”, he stressed.

Meanwhile, the employees in Vassiliko are still on strike for the sixth consecutive day, protesting for the violation of their union contract.

The strikes have affected the construction industry and the issue has been forwarded to the mediatory service of the Labour Ministry.
