HB-ETYK in intensive talks

15/10/2015 11:08
Hellenic Bank and ETYK union are to engage into intensive talks in order to settle their dispute within two weeks.

After a long mediation meeting under the labor minister Zeta Emilianidou, the bank and the trade union agreed to start direct negotiations to resolve the dispute in a way that would satisfy both sides.

The dispute relates to whether or not the bank has the right to recruit people in organic positions without first obtaining ETYK’s approval.

The minister of labor in her statements after the mediation meeting, stressed that the outcome of the talks, in case of reaching an agreement, will be binding for both sides.

Mrs. Emilianidou stressed that she recognizes that both the employer and the trade union side wish the conciliation procedure and expressed the hope that a solution will be found.

Hellenic Bank’s CEO Bert Pijls supported the dialogue noting that he is convinced that the two sides can reach a mutually acceptable solution.

When the agreement is reached, he added, we should all concentrate on the recovery of the economy and the banking system.

From his part, the secretary general of ETYK Christos Panagides, noted that what is important for the workers is dialogue in good faith through which a solution to the problem can be sought and achieved.

ETYK with a circular issued yesterday announced that in demonstration of good faith and because of the mediatory intervention of the labor minister, it suspends all dynamic measures applicable to the bank (abstention from overtime) including the two-hour strike planned for Thursday.
