24-hour strike by carpenters

24/10/2001 10:31
Carpenters and furniture makers, members of the unions PEO and SEK, are staging a 24-hour warning strike today following a deadlock in negotiations with the employers' association PASYVEX, despite mediation efforts by the Ministry of Employment. The unions claims that in contrast to normal policy, PASYVEX has submitted counter proposals to their claims which apparently cancel the existing collective agreement. Unions are seeking renewal of the collective agreement which expired last year and other claims including wage increases and improvement of contributions to their provident fund.

From their part, PASYVEX have clearly stated that they are against the strike measures and accused the unions of giving misleading information, as the association has apparently accepted some of the claims which the unions describe as unresolved.
