CA Pilots issues strike warning

21/08/2001 09:59
Despite the prospect of a settlement of the dispute which arose between Cyprus Airways' engineers, members of the union ASYKEKA, and the company, the dispute between CA and the Pancyprian Pilots Union PASIPI is again in the forefront. The latter issued an announcement yesterday warning of further strikes, claiming that even though efforts were made to bridge the gap, management has refused to return to the negotiating table, despite the Labour Ministry's suggestion of intensifying meetings between the two sides up to the 25 August.

In their announcement, PASIPI claims that Cyprus Airways is intentionally being slowly downgraded with Eurocypria gaining strength in an effort to eventually privatise the company. The union claims that staff of the two companies are being treated very differently, with Eurocypria pilots enjoying better privileges.
