CCCI condemns strikes

12/07/2005 13:50
The successive strike measures have turned economy into a “hostage of professional groups”, the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry announced on Tuesday.

After the outbreak of a new strike by the lorry drivers, CCCI urged the government to assume responsibility and safeguard economy, protecting the people’s interests.

CCCI condemned the decision of the lorry drivers, stressing that “they have to realize the losses on economy and the negative repercussions on them”.

“In a period when the collective effort for the confrontation of the internal and external negative developments for economy is necessary, the strike measures are reprehensible”, the announcement said.

CCCI urged the drivers to suspend the strike measures and have talks in a peaceful climate.

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry also urged the government to be more decisive.
