Complaints for non payment of minimum salary

The complaints to the Labour Ministry for the non payment of the minimum salary by the employees have increased dramatically lately, Labour Minister, Sotiroula Charalambous stated today.

In an effort to keep a tight rein, the Ministry is reviewing an amendment of the law for the protection of the salaries.

Mrs. Charalambous made clear that the legislation will be changed if this is deemed necessary so as to strengthen the employers’ obligation to pay the salaries.

According to the Minister, the Ministry’s officials tracked down several breaches in the payment of the minimum salary during their inspections and the Labour Relations Department is trying to intervene so that the employers comply with their obligations.

“At the same time, the Ministry is trying hard for the payment of the salaries to the employees who have complained”, the Minister concluded.
