Employees in the broad public sector rose to 67,670 in Q2

The total number of employees in the broad public sector rose to 67,670 in the second quarter of the year, showing an increase of 1% compared to the corresponding period of 2017.
 
According to Cyprus’ Statistical Service data, compared to the second quarter of 2017, employment in the broader sector increased by 672 persons in absolute terms.
 
In the General Government which consists of the Government, Non-Profit Organisations and Local Authorities the number of employees was 51,987, 5,552 and 4,232 persons respectively.
 
 
The employment in the broad public sector increased by 672 persons (1.00%) compared to the same quarter of 2017. The employment in Central Government increased by 696 persons (1.22%) while a decrease is observed in Publicly Owned Enterprises and Companies by 10 persons (-0.17%) and in Local Authorities by 14 persons (-0.33%).
 
Compared to the first quarter of 2018, the employment in the broad public sector increased by 332 persons (0.49%). The employment in Central Government increased by 263 persons (0.46%) and in Local Authorities by 74 persons (1.78%) while in Publicly Owned Enterprises and Companies decreased by 5 persons (-0.08%).
