Employment and actual work hours up in Q1 2023

Total employment and actual hours worked were up in the first quarter of 2023, Cyprus Statistical Service (CySta) said on Thursday releasing an initial estimate.

In a press release CyStat said that the total number of workers employed in the 1st quarter of 2023 is estimated at 458,687, of which 407,787 are employees and 50,900 self-employed, while compared to the corresponding quarter of 2022, total employment for the 1st quarter of 2023 increased by 2.1%, mainly due to Information and Communication activities (NACE J), Accommodation and food service activities (NACE I), Human health and social work activities (NACE Q) and Administrative and support service activities (NACE N).

According to the Statistical Office, the actual worked hours for the first quarter of 2023 are estimated at 208,240, with an increase of 2.8% compared to the corresponding quarter of 2022, which is mainly due to the sectors of Accommodation and food service activities (NACE I), Information and communication activities (NACE J), Human health and social work activities (NACE Q) and Administrative and support service activities (NACE N).
