Employment in broad public sector up

Total employment in the Broad Public Sector increased yearly by 1.1% in the 4th quarter of 2020 and by 2.1% compared to the 3rd quarter of 2020, according to data released Thursday by the Statistical Service of Cyprus.

Employment in the Broad Public Sector increased by 783 persons (1.1%) compared to the same quarter of 2019. The employment in Central Government increased by 205 persons (0.3%) and in Publicly Owned Enterprises and Companies by 713 persons (13.2%) whereas the employment in Local Authorities decreased by 135 persons (-3.3%).

Compared to the 3rd quarter of 2020, the employment in the Broad Public Sector increased by 1,455 persons (2.1%). The employment in Central Government increased by 1,169 persons (2.0%) and in Publicly Owned Enterprises and Companies by 377 persons (6.6%) whereas in Local Authorities the employment decreased by 91 persons (-2.2%).

Total employment in the Broad Public Sector in the 4th quarter of 2020 reached 69,957 persons. The employment in General Government was 63,828 and in the Publicly Owned Enterprises and Companies 6,129 persons.

In General Government, which consists of the Government, Non-Profit Organizations and Local Authorities, total employment reached 52,671, 7,139 and 4,018 persons respectively.
