Employment in broad public sector reaches 69,819 persons

Total employment in the Broad Public Sector in the 1st quarter of 2021 reached 69,819 persons, according to the Cyprus Statistical Service .

In a press release issued on Monday, it says that number of people employed in the General Government was 64,140 and in the Publicly Owned Enterprises and Companies 5,679.

In General Government, which consists of the Government, Non-Profit Organisations and Local Authorities, total employment reached 52,644, 7,474 and 4,022 persons respectively.

Employment in the Broad Public Sector increased by 556 persons (0.8%) compared to the same quarter of 2020. Employment in Central Government increased by 476 persons (0.8%) and in Publicly Owned Enterprises and Companies by 111 persons (2.0%) whereas the employment in Local Authorities decreased by 31 persons (0.8%).

It adds that compared to the 4th quarter of 2020, the employment in the Broad Public Sector decreased by 138 persons (-0.2%). Employment in Central Government increased by 308 persons (0.5%) and in Local Authorities by 4 persons (0.1%) whereas in Publicly Owned Enterprises and Companies the employment decreased by 450 persons (7.3%).
