Employment down by 1.3% during Q4 2020

Total employment in Cyprus decreased by 1.3% in the fourth quarter of 2020, compared to the corresponding quarter of 2019.

According to an announcement, issued on Friday by the Statistical Service of Cyprus (CyStat), total employment for the fourth quarter of 2020 is estimated at 442,271 persons, of which 392,697 are employees and 49,574 are self-employed.

The most significant percentage decreases were observed in the economic activities of Accommodation and Food Service Activities (NACE I), Transportation and Storage (NACE H), Administrative and Support Service Activities (NACE N), Arts, Entertainment and Recreation (NACE R) and Other Service Activities (NACE S), the announcement adds.

Actual hours worked in the fourth quarter of 2020 are estimated at 190,615 thousands; a decrease of 6.3% compared to the corresponding quarter of 2019. The most significant percentage decreases were observed in the economic activities of Accommodation and Food Service Activities (NACE I), Transportation and Storage (NACE H), Administrative and Support Service Activities (NACE N), Arts, Entertainment and Recreation (NACE R) and Other Service Activities (NACE S).
