Government labour force increases 2.2% in 2018

Government labour force increased 2.2% in 2018, due to recruitment of temporary staff.

According to a press release by the Statistical Service of Cyprus, in December 2018 the government labour force increased by 1.107 persons (2.2%) in comparison to the corresponding month of 2017 and reached 51,846 persons.

 
Temporary staff increased by 12.6% and reached 16,867 persons compared to 14,980 persons in December 2017. Permanent staff decreased by 780 persons (-2.2%).
 
Compared to December 2017 there is an increase in all the categories of government labour force except in the category of Civil Service. The largest increase is observed in the category of Hourly Paid Workers (11.1%) in which the casual staff increased by 121.9% (992 persons).
 
Compared to November 2018, the staff of the Education category increased by 0.6% (87 persons) while the category of Civil Service decreased by -0.1% (-9 persons), the Security Forces by -0.2% (-24 persons) and the Hourly Paid Workers by -0.6% (-53 persons).
