Government’s casual staff increases in February

Annual employment in Cyprus Government in February 2021 remained stable, however permanent staff decreased and casual staff, mainly in education increased, according to data published on Thursday by the Statistical Service of Cyprus.

In February 2021 total government employment decreased by 52 persons (-0.1%) in comparison to the corresponding month of 2020 and reached 52,481 persons. Permanent staff decreased by 999 persons (-3.6%), from 27,774 to 26,775 persons. Casual staff increased by 1,125 persons (6.9%) and reached 17,403 persons compared to 16,278 persons in February 2020.
 
Compared to February 2020 an increase is recorded in Education staff (1.5%) and in Civil Service staff (0.2%) while a decrease is observed in Security Forces staff (-0.9%). In all three categories of permanent staff there is a decrease and the highest is observed in Civil Service staff (-4.0%). On the contrary, in all three categories of casual staff there is an increase and the highest is observed in Education staff (13.0%).
 
Compared to January 2021, an increase is observed in Civil Service staff (0.2%) while a decrease is observed in Education staff (-2.5%) and in Security Forces staff (-0.2%). In all three categories of permanent staff there is a decrease and the highest is observed in Civil Service staff (-0.4%). In casual staff an increase is recorded in Civil Service staff (1.1%) whereas a decrease is observed in Education staff (-6.6%) and in Security Forces staff (-0.1%).
