Job vacancy rate down to 1.2% in second quarter

Job vacancies in Cyprus amounted to 1.2% or 4,172 in the second quarter of 2020, marking a reduction of 32% compared with the respective period of 2019, Cyprus Statistical Service (Cystat) has said.

Job vacancies in the second quarter of 2020 marked a reduction of 1,969 (-32,1%) compared to the same quarter of the previous year, whereas compared with the previous quarter of 2020 declined by 3,005 or 41.9%), Cystat said.

The job vacancy rate in the 2nd quarter of 2020 was 1,2%, compared with 2.0% and 1.7% in the previous quarter and the 2nd quarter of 2019 respectively.

The largest job vacancy rates in the 2nd quarter of 2020 were observed in the Sectors of Human Health and Social Work Activities with 2.8%, Accommodation and Food Services with 2.7% and Information and Communication with 1.9%

Furthermore, according to Cystat, total employment in the Broad Public Sector in the 2nd quarter of 2020 reached 69,483 persons, marking an increase of 1,026 persons or 1.5% compared with the respective period of 2019.

The employment in General Government was 63.792 and in the Publicly Owned Enterprises and Companies 5.691 persons, Cystat added.

Compared with the second quarter of 2019, employment in Central Government increased by 696 persons (1.2%), in Publicly Owned Enterprises and Companies by 291 persons (5.4%) and in Local Authorities by 39 persons (0.9%).
