PASYPI: Ultimatum to CAIR

11/05/2005 08:13
Pilots’ trade union, PASYPI delivered on Monday an ultimatum to the Cyprus Airways Management and the Securities and Exchange Commission.

In a letter sent to CAIR Chairman, Lazaros Savvides, the trade union demanded the payment of the amounts due to all its members, plus the interests.

PASYPI believes that the decision of the former Board of Directors to adopt the Labour Ministry’s proposal in December was unilateral, since pilots rejected the proposal that all other trade unions accepted, after a voting process.

PASIPY also noted that it disagrees with the company’s trend to abolish the provisions of the union contract arbitrarily and emphasized that “it demands the payment of its members plus the interests so as to restore the spirit of cooperation”.

On the other hand, Cyprus Airways Chairman, Lazaros Savvides expressed his surprise and disappointment on the latest developments and clarified that the pilots’ demand cannot be accepted by the company. “The national carrier is struggling to deal with its problems”, he noted.

Mr. Savvides said that he would like to have a meeting with PASYPI for further clarifications.

Meanwhile, the Board of Directors of the national carrier will announce a new round of talks with the trade unions, after the completion of the new plan for its survival. It is worth noting that the plan will be brought before the European Commission within the period of five months, which will decide whether it will approve a second loan of £60 million.
