Permanent staff employed in the government decreased in June

Permanent staff employed in the government decreased by 679 persons or 2.5%, from 26,629 to 25,950 persons, while casual staff increased by 882 persons, or 4.9% and reached 18,980 persons compared to 18,098 persons in June 2021, according to data published by the Statistical Service on Monday. Total government employment increased by 265 persons or 0.5% in June, in comparison to the corresponding month of 2021 and reached 53,474 persons.

According to the data, an increase of 0.8% is observed in Civil Service staff and 2% in Educational Service staff, compared to June 2021, whereas a decrease ot 1.7% is observed in Security Forces staff. There is a decrease in all three categories of permanent staff and the highest is observed in Civil Service staff, recording a 3.3% drop. In casual staff an increase of 7.3% is observed in in Civil Service staff and 8.5% in Educational Service staff, whereas a decrease of 1% is observed in Security Forces staff. An increase of 0.7% is observed in Hourly Paid Workers compared to June 2021.

In addition, compared to May 2022, a 0.3% increase is observed in Civil Service staff, whereas a 2.1% and 0.4% decrease is observed in Educational Service staff and in Security Forces staff respectively. In permanent staff a 0.4% decrease is observed in Civil Service staff and a 0.2% in Security Forces staff, whereas the permanent Educational Service staff remains stable. In casual staff an increase of 1.2% is observed in Civil Service staff, whereas a decrease of 5.2% is observed in Educational Service staff and 0.7% in Security Forces staff. An increase of 1.5% is observed in Hourly Paid Workers compared to May 2022.
