Strategy for safety and health at work for 2021-2027

The Index of Accidents during the period 2013-2020 dropped by 14.7%, it was noted during a special ceremony on Friday for the signing of the Strategy of Cyprus for Safety and Health at Work for 2021-2027, organised by the Department of Labour Inspection of the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance.

The ceremony that was financed by the European Organization for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) took place in the presence of Labour Minister, Zeta Emilianidou, the Ministry's Permanent Secretary, Andreas Zachariades and representatives of the organizations which participate in the Pan-Cyprian Safety and Health Council.

In her address, after the signing of the Strategy of Cyprus for Safety and Health at Work for 2021-2027, Emilianidou said that that prevention, safe procedures, motives, cooperation, surveillance, trust, devotion, legislation, training and positive approach are very important for safety and health in workplaces.

She expressed certainty that all social partners will do their utmost to implement the Strategy signed, stressing that the aim is to have zero accidents in the workplace.

Emilianidou also assured that the government supports and believes in this effort, and noted that the Strategy signed determines the directions and the priorities set out for the continuous and consistent improvement of the safety and health levels at workplaces, within the changing labour environment created by the European effort for green and digital transition. 

Emilianidou said that the Strategy includes 10 basic pillars covering, among others, the promotion of prevention and the establishment of a positive safety and health mentality, closer cooperation with the social partners and other involved stakeholders, the integration of issues related to safety and health at work in other policy fields, the operation of a proper and efficient system of labour inspection and the implementation of a proper system for the surveillance of the employees health.
