Total employment up 1.2% in Q2

Total employment in Cyprus increased by 1.2% for the 2nd quarter of 2021, compared to the corresponding quarter of 2020.

According to the Statistical Service’s of Cyprus provisional estimate, total Employment for the 2nd quarter of 2021 is estimated at 446,383 persons, of which 396,020 are employees and 50,363 are self-employed.

The most significant percentage increases were observed in the economic activities of Accommodation and Food Service Activities (NACE I), Information and Communication (NACE J), Education (NACE P), Human Health and Social Work Activities (NACE Q). In contrast, significant percentage decreases were observed in the economic activities of Transportation and Storage (NACE H) and Financial and Insurance Activities (NACE K).

Actual hours worked for the 2nd quarter of 2021 are estimated at 194,825 thousands; an increase of 10.8% compared to the corresponding quarter of 2020. The most significant percentage increases were observed in the economic activities of Manufacturing (NACE C), Construction (NACE F), Accommodation and Food Service Activities (NACE I), Arts, Entertainment and Recreation (NACE R) and Other Service Activities (NACE S).
