Total government employment up slightly annually in April

Total government employment increased slightly on an annual basis in April, data released by the Cyprus Statistical Service, on Monday, show.
 
Ιn April 2020 total government employment, which includes the civil service, education, security forces and hourly paid workers, increased by 233 persons (0.4%) in comparison to the corresponding month of 2019 and reached 52,650 persons, CyStat says in a press release.
Permanent staff fell by 674 persons or 4%, down from 28,389 to 27,715 persons.
 
Casual staff increased by 5.9% and reached 16,474 persons compared to 15,559 persons in April 2019.
According to the Cyprus Statistical Service compared to April 2019 there is a decrease of staff in all personnel categories except Education, with the greatest observed in Civil Service 0.6% and more specifically in the number of permanent staff which decreased by 2.9% or 330persons.
 
Compared to March 2020, a drop is observed in all the categories except education where it remained stable.
The greatest decrease which is of the order of 0.3% is recorded in both the permanent and the casual staff of civil service.
