Unemployment declines

According to CYSTAT data released on Monday, the number of people out of work in June 2008 dropped to 10,509 compared to 10,727 in the corresponding month of 2007 (-218 persons). This drop was mostly observed in the sector of manufacture and hotels-restaurants.

The unemployed in the sector of manufacturing industries fell to 1,054 from 1,146, while those in wholesale-retail trade declined to 1,845 and hotels to 971 from 1,063.

As for the professional category of the unemployed, cleaners, messengers and unspecialized workers ranked first, since they reached 2,052, followed by the qualified and other specialized (1,839), the service workers – salesmen (1,813) and secretaries – typists – cashiers (1,404).

Same figures show that the people out of work in June increased by 1,256 compared to May. The highest increase was registered in the sector of education.
