Unemployment drops in September

Unemployment declined in September, boosting expectations for an improvement in the labour market conditions.

Based on the seasonally adjusted data that shows the trend of unemployment, the number of registered unemployed for September 2014 decreased to 46.965 persons in comparison to 47.593 in the previous month and 51.272 in September 2013.

The unemployed persons, registered at the District Labour Offices on the last day of September 2014, reached 43.017 persons compared to 45.583 in August and 47.017 in September 2013.

In comparison with September 2013, a decrease of 4.000 persons or 8,5% was recorded which was mainly observed in the sectors of trade (a decrease of 1.642 unemployed persons), construction (a decrease of 1.063), education (a decrease of 1.058), manufacturing (a decrease of 594), financial and insurance activities (a decrease of 491) and professional, scientific and technical activities (a decrease of 438).

It is worth noting that during the same period there was also an increase in unemployment in the sectors of public administration (an increase of 380 unemployed persons), accommodation and food service activities (an increase of 299) and to newcomers in the labour market (an increase of 767).

By profession, most unemployed are observed in the sector of cleaners, ushers and unskilled workers amounting to 7.827, followed by clerks, typists, cashiers with 7.483 and service employees and vendors with 6.337.

Newcomers unemployed in September 2014 amounted to 6.005 persons.

Unemployment is observed to a greater extent at ages 30-39, followed by ages 50-59 and 40-49.

Based on the educational level, most unemployed are graduates of secondary general education (16.059) and higher education (13.885).
