The President of the Republic leaves for Brussels

The President of the Republic Mr Nicos Anastasiades leaves tomorrow, 19 February, for Brussels, where he will participate in the Special Meeting of the European Council to be held on 20 February 2020.

The Council will discuss issues relating to the Multiannual Financial Framework 2021-2027.

According to a statement, during his stay in Brussels, President Anastasiades will hold separate meetings with the new Presidents of the EU Institutions. These will be the first official and private meetings between the President and the heads of the EU institutions. 

Specifically, President Anastasiades will have a working lunch tomorrow with the President of the European Council Mr Charles Michel, and in the afternoon he will meet with the President of the European Parliament Mr David Sassoli.

On 20 February, the President of the Republic will meet with the President of the European Commission Mrs Ursula von der Leyen. 

In the framework of his visit to Brussels, the President will also meet with the President of the European People’s Party Mr Donald Tusk.

On the sidelines of the European Council Meeting, the President of the Republic will also meet with heads of state or government.

In his meetings, President Anastasiades will raise issues regarding the developments on the Cyprus problem, the illegal actions of Turkey in the Exclusive Economic Zone of the Republic of Cyprus, as well as in the fenced city of Famagusta, which is under military occupation by Turkey.

The President of the Republic will be accompanied in Brussels by the Government Spokesman Mr Kyriacos Kousios.
