CY Ministries under EU supervision

01/07/2003 13:58
Within the framework of Cyprus’ harmonization with the Community Acquis, the island’s Ministries are currently under supervision by the competent authorities of the European Union, as EU officials have visited Cyprus to examine the harmonization process of the Foreign, Interior and Justice Ministries.

EU Accession Coordinator for Cyprus, Takis Hadjidemetriou said that the Commission’s audit is intensive and constant.

Responding on the question addressed by MP Nicos Kleanthous concerning the difference between last year’s and this year’s figures on harmonization, Mr. Hadjidemetriou said that the difference is that Cyprus is now reaching the end of the deadline, which is the island’s full accession in the EU on May 1, 2003. It is noted that the harmonization process must be completed six months prior to the accession, that is before October.
