Head of Cyprus’ EU Negotiating Team Georgos Vassiliou stated yesterday that Cyprus aims to close another two chapters of the acquis by March of this year, those concerning taxation and competition, leaving open the chapters on regional policy, budgets and agriculture.

According to a preliminary plan to be submitted today to governments of the 15 EU country members, through special programs for financial restructuring, the EU proposes to allot 208 million euro to be utilized by the Turkish Cypriots in the occupied part of the country. The move is hoped to provide a strong incentive for the reaching of a solution, highlighting prospects for Turkish Cypriots in a future within the European Union.
