Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos and Foreign Minister George Iacovou have signed the EU Accession Treaty on Wednesday in Athens, together with nine other countries, which will become full members of the European Union on May 1, 2003.
As the CNA reports, the Protocol for Cyprus “provides for the suspension of the application of the acquis communautaire in those areas of the Republic where the government of the Republic does not exercise effective control”.
