The European Court of Auditors (ECA) has officially announced the appointment of MEP Lefteris Christoforou as its new member representing Cyprus, as well as the appointment of a new member for Malta, in a statement issued on Thursday.
Christoforou’s six year term in the Luxembourg-based body will begin on November 2nd 2022 and end on November 1st 2028, replacing Lazaros Lazarou, after having been nominated by the Cypriot government and approved by the European Parliament and the Council of the EU.
The press release points out that Christoforou has been an MEP since 2014 and that he has been a regular member of the Budgetary Control Committee (CONT) of the European Parliament.
The ECA also announced the appointment of George Marius Hyzler to represent Malta. Hyzler, who has been the commissioner for Standards in Public Life in Malta since 2018, is appointed for a six year term starting on October 1st 2022 and ending on September 30th 2028, replacing Leo Brincat.
