Tax agreement with Barbados

The Republic of Cyprus and Barbados signed on May 3, in London, a Convention for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with respect to Taxes on Income.

According to a Finance Ministry announcement, the Treaty was signed by the High Commissioner of the Republic in the United Kingdom, Euripides Evriviades, on behalf of the Republic of Cyprus and by the High Commissioner of Barbados in the United Kingdom, Guy Hewitt, on behalf of Barbados.

The text agreed between the two jurisdictions will enhance the trade and economic relations between Cyprus and Barbados as well as with other countries, it is added.

Upgrading and expanding the network of Double Taxation Agreements is of high economic and political importance and aims to further strengthen Cyprus as an international business center, the announcement continues.

The Convention is based on the OECD Model Tax Convention for the Avoidance of Double Taxation (OECD Model Convention for the Avoidance of Double Taxation on Income).
