Deputy Minister takes part in competitiveness ministers' informal meeting

Kyriacos Kokkinos,  Deputy Minister to the President for Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, participated in the informal meeting of competitiveness ministers (Research) that took place in Slovenia, under the Slovenian presidency of the EU.

The EU competitiveness ministers (research) used the informal meeting to have an in-depth discussion on the key issues and challenges of the EU`s research and innovation policy environment.

They discussed the most recent research and innovation proposals tabled by the European Commission: the Pact for Research and Innovation in Europe, and the Global Approach to Research and Innovation. The informal meeting also examined the reform of the European Research Area (the new ERA).

In his intervention, Kokkinos underlined the need for collective action, exchange of information and best practices to formulate and implement the ERA actions.

There was also an exchange of views by the ministers of Research on the international dimension of research and innovation. The Cypriot minister’s intervention focused on the need to strengthen cooperation on Research and Innovation on an international level, especially in areas such as health, digital migration and climate and also between partners in the Mediterranean region, as a factor of stability, peace and prosperity.
