President takes part in EU – Western Balkans summit

Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades takes part on Tuesday and Wednesday at the EU – Western Balkans summit, which is hosted by the Slovenian presidency of the Council of the EU in Brdo pri Kranju.

President Anastasiades, who is accompanied by Government Spokesperson Marios Pelekanos, is expected to address the works of the summit on matters pertaining to the agenda and to inform EU and Western Balkan leaders of developments in the Cyprus problem, the presidency has announced.

Discussions are expected to focus around the reaffirmation of the European perspective of the Western Balkans, the region`s socio-economic recovery in the context of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the implementation of the Economic and Investment Plan (EIP), which sets out a substantial investment package, intensifying regional cooperation and exploring further cooperation on political and security matters of mutual concern. The situation in Afghanistan is one of the matters to be discussed.
