Cooperation with Greece in the fields of digital transformation to expand

Cyprus Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, Kyriakos Kokkinos, had on Thursday meetings in Athens during which he discussed with his interlocutors about expanding the cooperation between Cyprus and Greece in the fields of digital transformation.

According to a press release issued by the Deputy Ministry, Kokkinos and the Deputy Ministry`s Permanent Secretary, Stelios Chimonas discussed with Greek officials the issue of speeding up digital switchover, as a basic pillar for recovery, development and welfare.

The Cypriot and Greek officials exchanged views, discussed best practices and agreed to reinforce bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the field of digital governance. They also focused on cooperation in the field of telecommunications and space, as a tool for strengthening the competitiveness of the two countries and establishing them as regional hubs for services in the Eastern Mediterranean region. 
 
The two sides reconfirmed their strong will for continuing expanding the bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the fields of their competencies, and agreed to promote the signing of an MoU on the exchange of know-how and expertise at the technocratic level and the implementation of joint initiatives, which is planned to take place within the next months, the press release noted.

In statements, Kokkinos said that "the two countries have common vision and objectives to modernize, improve competitiveness and achieve conditions of social welfare, by using information and communication technologies."

"Steady and decisive steps are getting underway through an expanded cooperation with Greece, both at the intestate and the European level, to successfully implement the digital strategy of the state which constitutes the cornerstone of a modern and functional state and a dynamic and competitive economy," he noted.

The Cypriot delegation met, among others, with the Minister of State and Digital Governance Kyriakos Pierrakakis, the Deputy Minister of Digital Governance, responsible for the Simplification of Administrative Procedures, Georgios Georgantas and the Deputy Minister for Telecommunications and the Land Registry Theodoros Livanios.
