Cyprus and Greece enhance cooperation in the field of research and innovation

Enhancing the cooperation between Cyprus and Greece in the field of Research and Innovation dominated the agenda of the contacts of the Chief Scientist for Research and Innovation of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikolas Mastroyiannopoulos, with government and business officials in Athens from 28 to 30 July.

According to a press release by Cyprus’ Research and Innovation Foundation (IDEK), the Chief Scientist and a delegation from IDEK held meetings with Greek Deputy Minister for Research and Technology Christos Dimas and Secretary General of Research and Technology Athanasios Kyriazis.

The two sides exchanged expertise and views on innovation and research policies, set common goals for enhanced cooperation that will yield synergies of mutual benefit, and create horizons to enhance political dialogue and scientific cooperation, with the ultimate goal of addressing common challenges.

In his statements, Mastroyiannopoulos said that the long-standing relations between Cyprus and Greece in key pillars, such as research, innovation and technology, are based on solid foundations and open new perspectives that offer mutual benefits.

In the Greek capital the Cypriot delegation held meetings with start-ups and innovative companies.

Meetings were also held with representatives of the European Investment Fund (EIF), the Hellenic Development Investment Bank  and the Institute of Technology and Research. At the same time, the delegation visited the National Observatory of Athens, the National Centre for Research in Natural Sciences "Demokritos", the National Technical University of Athens and the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research.
