Cyprus to “think it over”

Following the meeting with the Iranian ambassador in Cyprus, Seyed Reza Hadj-Zargarbashi, Commerce Minister, Giorgos Lillikas, said that Iran has expressed its willingness to strengthen its trading activity with Cyprus and sign up an interstate agreement for the attraction of Cyprus investments.

Mr. Lillikas has requested more information with regard to the current Iranian legislation on investments and trading, which will be announced to the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and the Employers and Industrialists’ Federation shortly.

The trading relations between Cyprus and Iran are based on the Memorandum of Understanding, signed in December 1992 by the Cyprus Commerce Minister and his Iranian counterpart. Cyprus mostly exports footwear and pharmaceutical products and imports dried fruit and carpets. It is noted that the Cyprus and Iranian Commerce Ministers have visited Iran and Cyprus in June 2000 and May 2001 respectively, while Iran has participated in the International Fair of Cyprus in 1989, 1990, 1995 and 2000.
