Police fine 199 citizens and 2 establishment owners for violating measures against COVID-19

Cyprus police booked 199 citizens and two establishment owners during the last 24 hours for violating the measures aiming to curb the spread of COVID-19.

A police spokesperson told CNA that a total of 11,703 checks were conducted from 0600 on Monday until 0600 on Tuesday.

One of the establishments for which fines were handed out is a coffee-shop in Limassol where five persons were playing card games on Monday night. The owner was fined 1,500 euros and each of the five individuals 300 euros. The other establishment is a restaurant in Famagusta. The owner was fined 4,000 euros for allowing, on April 17, clients to dance.

During the last 24 hours, the police conducted 3,077 checks in Nicosia and reported 66 citizens. In Limassol they carried out 2,506 checks and booked 71 citizens and one establishment owner. In Larnaca they fined 11 citizens after carrying out 1,728 checks. In Paphos the police conducted 1,120 checks and booked 21 citizens.

In Famagusta the police carried out 1,467 checks and fined 27 citizens and one establishment owner. In Morphou they conducted 900 checks without reporting anyone.

The Traffic Department carried out 877 checks and fined 3 citizens. The Port and Marine Police conducted 28 checks and did not fine anyone.

No one was also reported in Larnaca and Paphos airports.
