Police fined 176 individuals for violating measures against COVID-19

Cyprus police have fined, during the last 24 hours, 176 individuals for breaching the measures against the spread of COVID-19.

A Police spokesperson told CNA that a total of 13,842 checks were carried out from 6.00am on Saturday until 6.00 am on Tuesday. Fines were handed out to citizens mainly because they did not send the SMS required for movement or for not wearing a protective face mask.

A total of 3,051 checks were carried out in Nicosia where 50 individuals were fined. In Limassol the Police conducted 4,190 checks and booked 57 people, while in Larnaca they carried out 1,599 checks and reported 23 individuals. In Pafos the Police conducted 1,447 checks and handed out fines to 30 people.

In Famagusta 1,659 checks were carried out and 11 individuals were fined, while out of 1,070 checks in Morphou no one was reported.

The Traffic Department carried out 640 checks and fined 5 people, while the Emergency Response Unit 10 checks and the Port and Marine Police 176 checks without booking anyone.
