Police fines decline sharply as Cyprus exits lockdown

Cyprus fines over covid violation measures declined sharply in the last 24 hours as Cyprus exited a two-week lock down on Monday.

A police spokesperson told CNA that fines on citizens declined to 35 in the last 24 hours ending on 06:00 Tuesday, compared to 121 in the previous day. Furthermore, police checks throughout the island declined by half to 4,847.

He added that the biggest number of fines, namely 14, concerned the curfew violation (from 23:00 to 06:00), followed by 8 reports over non-use of face mask in public spaces and 7 were associated with non-use of face masks in cars.

In Nicosia a total of 1,640 checks were carried out with 1 individual reported, in Limassol 332 checks were carried out with 12 individuals fined, in Larnaca 5 citizens were reported following 633 checks, in Pafos 850 checks were carried out with 10 individuals reported, in Famagusta 5 individuals were fined following 607 checks and in the Morphou area 550 checks were carried out with 1 individual reported.

Furthermore, the Traffic Department carried out 114 checks with 1 individual reported, while the Marine and Port Police carried out 121 checks with no reports issued.
