Police report 111 citizens and two shops for violating Covid-19 measures

Cyprus police issued fines for 111 individuals and two shops for breaching measures aiming at containing the spread of the covid-19 disease.

A Police spokesperson told CNA that in the last 24 hours that ended on 06:00 local time Tuesday, the force carried out 10,773 checks island-wide.

Of the 113 reports, 46 concerned movement without sending SMS while the rest concerned the non-use of protective mask.

As of January 10, Cyprus entered in three-week lockdown with the citizens, except those allowed to go to their works which were not suspended under the lockdown measures, allowed to move outside their homes twice after requesting permission via SMS.

In Nicosia, 2,638 checks were carried out with 22 individuals fined, 2,178 in Limassol with the Police reporting 51 citizens and 1,462 checks were carried out in Larnaca with 12 individuals and one shop fined.

The Police carried out 920 checks in Pafos reporting nine individuals and one shop, 2,121 checks were carried out in Famagusta with 15 individuals reported and 836 checks were made in Morphou with 2 individuals reported.

Traffic department also carried out 516 checks mainly in highways with no reports issued, while the Police Emergency Response Unit carried out 73 checks with no reports. Port and Marine Police also carried out 29 checks with no reports.
