The current epidemiological outlook does not allow any further relaxation of the measures against the spread of COVID-19 in the following period of time, as the government intended to, until the country`s vaccination programme bears fruit, Government Spokesman, Kyriakos Koushos said on Sunday.

In statements after an extraordinary meeting under Cyprus President, Nicos Anastasiades, attended by the Ministers of Health, Finance and Labour and the Government Spokesman, Koushos noted that the UK COVID-19 variant is now dominant in Cyprus, affects all ages and is related with a serious deterioration of the epidemiological indicators in the community and in hospitals, something which dangerously burdens the health system`s structures.

Koushos called on everyone to cooperate in the joint effort to address the situation, by choosing to get vaccinated and abiding by the protective measures and the measures of personal hygiene, adding that only in this way we will get out of this unfavourable situation.

"The pandemic affects all of us. Together we can make it," the Spokesman concluded, according to a press release issued by the Presidency.
