Record number of citizens booked by the Police for Covid-19 measures violations

The Cyprus Police registered a new record in daily number of fining for violations of Covid-19 protective measures. A total of 146 individuals and three shops were reported.

A Police sposkesperon told CNA, the force carried out a total of 10,668 checks island-wide in the last 24 hours ending at 06:00 local time Thursday.

As of January 10, Cyprus entered in three-week lockdown with the citizens, except those allowed to go to their works which were not suspended under the lockdown measures, allowed to move outside their homes twice after requesting permission via SMS.

In Nicosia, the Police reported 34 individuals and one shop after 2,912 checks, in Limassol 48 individuals and one shop were reported following 2,276 checks, whereas 14 individuals were reported in Larnaca after 1,502 checks.

The Police carried out 1,307 checks in Pafos reporting 27 individuals and one shop, 18 persons were reported in Famagusta after 1,286 checks, four persons were reported in Morphou after 857 checks, while the Traffic department carried out 492 checks mainly in highways reporting one person.

Furthermore, 22 were carried out by the Police’s Rapid Response Unit and 34 by the Marine and Port Police with zero persons reported.
