Shop owners fined following police checks for measures against COVID

Cyprus Police booked 24 individuals and 3 shop owners in the last 24 hours for violating measures against further spread of COVID-19. Two of the shop owners were fined €3,000 and €8,000 respectively, while a court case was filed for the third one.

A police spokesperson told CNA that in the last 24 hours ending on 6:00 local time Thursday, the Force carried out a total of 1,099 checks throughout the government-controlled areas.

In Nicosia, the Police carried out 105 checks reporting 2 individuals and 1 shop owner, in Limassol 36 checks were carried out with 2 individuals and 1 shop owner fined, 328 checks in Larnaca resulted in no reports, in Pafos 6 individuals and 1 shop owner were fined after 79 checks, in Famagusta 7 individuals were booked following 287 checks, while in the Morphou region no fines were issued following 168 checks.

Furthermore, no fines were issued following 92 checks by the Traffic Department and 4 checks by the Port and Marine Police. Following the checks by the Airport Authorities, 7 individuals were booked.

A shop in Nicosia was fined €8,000 for working staff without a safe pass. In Limassol, another shop was fined €3,000 for employing staff without a safe pass. In Pafos, a court case was filed for a shop, where neither customers, nor staff had a safe pass. There was no safe pass control at the entrance, no temperature measuring for employees and no antiseptic available in the shop either.
