The government of Cyprus has announced that a "Woman`s House" which will offer support services to victims of violence will start operating on December 1st.

"We are announcing today the start of operation of the "Woman`s House" as of December 1, 2020," Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades said in a message on Twitter.

He added that facing violence against women "constitutes a political priority of the government and our aim is to offer immediate and effective services to victims of violence."

The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women "is nothing more but a reminder of our necessary daily fight so that violence of any kind against women ceases to exist in every family, every house, every workplace," he noted.

In a message on the occasion, Minister of Labour, Welfare and Social Insurance Zeta Emilianides says the "Woman`s House" will operate "as a scientific centre, friendly to victims of violence, where professionals from various specialisations and public officers such as clinical psychologists, social workers, specially trained members of the police and others, will work under the same roof aiming to provide protection and specialised support to victims of violence and their families."

The "Woman`s House" will be accessible to all women and their underage children as well as girls under 18 years of age who are victims of violence, without discrimination, including immigrant women, or refugees irrespective of their situation or status.
