The Cabinet today decided to allocate an additional 4.6 million euro to affected groups of farmers due to the measures taken against the spread of COVID-19. How the amount will be distributed to each group, will be decided in the next few days.

Agriculture Minister Costas Kadis said after the meeting of the Cabinet that the additional support could be given through redistribution of EU and/or co-financed funds. He also explained that any small  agricultural enterprise which have the opportunity to receive support from the state aid plans as proposed by the Ministry of Finance, can do so and avoid the double funding.

There are a total of seven affected farmers’ groups. Kadis said that this is a difficult period for the farmers and assured that the government wil continue its support , recalling that end of March the Cabinet approved another set of measures including the free water supply.

He also said that 11 mln euro were given as compensation for damages suffered in the previous period.
