CSE-BOC-CPB hit record high

The new CSE general index reached a record high on Monday, closing at 2303.9 points and at +3.9%, while the Bank of Cyprus and the Popular Bank hit new 5-year highs, recording impressive gains.

Similarly, FTSE soared 4% to 781.2 points.

The Bank of Cyprus, which is expected to examine its final results 2005 and the possible payment of a dividend on February 27, climbed 4.4% or 15 cents to £3.54 (last seen on 15/12/2005), while BOC in the ASE is currently recording gains of 1.6% to €6.20 or £3.56, attracting 1.14 million pieces.

The Popular Bank, which will meet on Wednesday to approve its preliminary results and examine the possible payment of a dividend, ended 3.5% or 9 cents stronger at £2.69 (last seen on 30/1/2001).

The Hellenic Bank recorded impressive gains as well, surging 3.6% or 3 cents to 86 cents. The Hellenic Bank warrant rose 5.6% to 28.3 cents.

The trading volume reached £5.83 million with the Bank of Cyprus being the most active stock of the day, concentrating 39.1% or £2.28 million of the turnover. The other daily volume leaders were CPB (25.2%), HB (9.1%), HBEw (3.3%), CLR Inv. (3.9%) and Louis (2.2%).

CLL added 4.4% to 4.8 cents and LUI put on 4.1% to 25.4 cents.

Overall, 66 securities went up, 28 fell and 25 remained unchanged.
