According to CYSTAT data released on Friday, the local cement sales in November 2005 recorded an increase of 4.3% to 146.2 thousand tons against 140.2 thousand tons in the corresponding month of 2004, when the increase stood at 20.2% against November 2003.

Slowdown in Jan-Nov

In January – November 2005, the construction activity slowed down. The increase in the local cement sales stood at 3% against an increase of 18.4% in the corresponding period of 2004.

However, Vasiliko Cements Sales Manager, Mr. Karakoulis, appeared exceptionally satisfied with the increased local cement sales, which is linked to “the good whether conditions”.

“The consumption of cement per capita will reach 2.1 tons this year, which is higher compared to the EU member – states”, Mr. Karakoulis noted, revising upwards its initial forecasts for 2005 (increase of 3.4% and not 3%).

Mr. Karakoulis also anticipates that local cement sales will increase slightly in 2006 due to the new governmental projects.
