Credit card use up 2%

The use of credit cards in the domestic market recorded a small increase, according to new JCC data.

The value of transactions through credit cards by Cypriots in the domestic market rose by 2% to €189.2 mn. The number of transactions reached 2.9 mn recording an increase of 5%. In May, the use of credit cards by Cypriots in the domestic market increased by 1%.

According to JCC, in June 2015, government services, clothing and footwear and health services recorded an increase. On the other hand, a decrease was observed in fuel and home appliance stores.

In the first half of 2015, the use of credit cards by Cypriots recorded a decrease of 1% to €1081.6mn.

Abroad, the increase was greater.

The transactions by Cypriots abroad, including online purchases, reached in the sixth month of 2015 €97.1 mn, recording an increase of 8%. In May, the increase was 1%. The number of transactions increased by 1% to 847.2 thousand.

In the first half of 2015, the use of cards by Cypriots abroad rose by 2% to €567.7 mn.
As for the non-Cypriots, the value of the credit card use increased in June by 7% to €73 mn. In May, the increase was 9%.

The number of transactions rose by 10% to 754.9 thousand.

For the period January-June 2015, credit card transactions by non-Cypriots increased by 11% to €290.5 mn.
