Credit card use stable in August

The use of credit cards in the domestic market remained stagnant in August, according to new data from JCC.

The value of credit card transactions by Cypriots in the domestic market remained unchanged in August 2015 compared to last year and amounted to € 178,4 mn. The number of transactions stood at 3 mn recording a 5% increase.

In July, there was an increase of 1% in the use of credit cards by Cypriots in the domestic market.

According to JCC, an increase occurred in restaurants and health services in August 2015, while, a decrease was recorded in petrol and government services.

In the eight months of 2015 the use of credit cards by Cypriots remained stable at € 1459,1 mn.

The use of credit cards by Cypriots abroad, including online shopping, reached € 101,1 mn in August 2015 recording an increase of 2%. In July there was a decrease of 1%. The number of transactions increased by 3% and reached 851.4 thousand in August.

In the eight months of 2015 the use of credit cards by Cypriots abroad rose by 2%, reaching € 769 mn.

As for the non-Cypriots, the value of credit card transactions rose by 2% in August reaching € 81,5 mn. In July the increase was 8%.

An increase of 3% was recorded in the number of transactions which amounted to 828.7 thousand.

In the period of January-August 2015 credit card transactions of non-Cypriots increased by 9% to €455,1 mn.
