24/11/2005 15:10
The increased activity in retail trade in August reflected the increase in the consumption of retail trade goods due to the sales.

According to CYSTAT data released on Thursday, the turnover volume index recorded an increase of 3.5% to 120.3 points against 116.2 points in August 2004.

In July, the retail trade activity was lower by 0.8%.

In January-August 2005, the index showed an increase of 4.5% to 917.5 points against 878.3 points in the corresponding period of 2004.

This increase is linked to pharmaceutical and medical products, cosmetics and toiletry, books and stationery and the operations of other retail trade in non-specialized stores.

On the other hand, the food, drinks and tobacco in non-specialized shops recorded a drop, as well as the retail trade of food, drinks and tobacco in specialized shops, the retail trade of textiles, clothes, shoes and leather goods, the retail trade of furniture, lighting, household goods and electronic appliances and the retail trade of used goods.
