According to Eurostat data released on Thursday, domestic retail trade activity fell three times the retail trade in Europe, since its volume in September was reduced by 5.8% against a decline of 2.8% in August.
The average decline in EU27 in September stood at 2.2% and in the euro area at 2.8%.
The highest increases were observed in Belgium (+4.4%), Sweden (+4.1%) and Poland (+3.9%), and the largest decreases in Latvia (-29.1%), Lithuania (-24.7%) and Estonia (-18.6%).
Increases were also observed in Austria (+3.4%), United Kingdom (+1.7%), Sweden (+1.3%) and Poland (+0.2%).
Eurostat published figures for October 2009 today. In October 20094, compared with October 2008, the retail sales index decreased by 1.9% in the euro area and by 0.9% in the EU27. There are no available data for Cyprus for the same month.
